How to fit yoga into the busiest of schedules

Life in the Bay Area is hectic as we all can attest to–whether it’s juggling between family and work, finding some personal time can definitely feel like a luxury. But intentionally creating time for our health, even during our weekly grind, can prove beneficial to both our mind/bodies, and can boost our productivity too. Yoga offers a myriad of benefits, from improving our bodily flexibility and strength to even reducing stress. However, the thought of fitting an hour session after working an 8 plus hour shift seems super daunting to many of us.

But here are 5 ways to fit yoga even into the busiest of schedules~

  1. Shorter and sweet:

Don’t underestimate the power of short practices. Instead of aiming for a hour-long class, go for a 20-30 minute session. Many studios (like Blissful Balance haha) offer dedicated short classes, or you can practice at home using online resources or yoga apps. Even a quick session can leave you feeling energized and better equipped to tackle the day’s challenges.

2. Use your time creatively:

Be flexible with how you approach your exercise. Consider practicing before work to help you prepare for those busy days. And if mornings are too hectic, try squeezing in a session during your lunch break or unwind with some evening yoga before dinnertime. Consistency is key, so finding a time that works best for you and sticking to it is what matters most! Setting aside that specific time and putting it in your calendar really helps demystify your routine.

3. Micro-practices:

You don’t need a dedicated yoga mat or fancy clothes to reap the benefits of yoga. Integrate short yoga moments throughout your day. Take a few deep breaths and roll your shoulders during a work break. Maybe practice a standing forward bend or a different pose in between work meetings. Incorporating micro-practice can help improve posture, lower stress and keep your body moving all week long.

4. Online resources:

At Blissful Balance we always emphasize the irreplaceable benefits of in-person yoga, but the internet truly offers a level of convenience that can help you get through even the busiest of days. You can find classes of all levels, durations, and needs, making it easy to practice when you’re in a crunch for time. So keep an eye out for future online resources which we’ll be releasing shortly!

5. Make it a social affair:

Partnering up with a family or friends can really spice up your yoga practice. Having someone to practice with boosts the fun and increases your motivation/accountability. Remember that yoga is all about community building, not just inner growth.

By incorporating these tips, you can find simple ways to make yoga a constant part of your busy life. Remember, even small doses of yoga can have a significant impact on your mental and physical well-being. Be kind to yourself if you miss a session, and learn to embrace quality over quantity. Missing a class or practice will only stunt your growth journey if you let it. So, take a deep breath, find your flow, and let’s keep on growing!
